Teokad producer and DJ

Driven by TEOKAD's "Underground Factory"

Teokad is a producer and DJ, co-founder and event organizer at Mikrokosm, and an artist booked with Weird Planet Agency—a promising path despite the current crisis. It is through a sharp and aggressive acid tone that this artist spreads his passion for electronic music. We looked back from his beginnings to the present day to retrace his journey and his sold-out concerts across the "Grand Ouest" region.

Théo is one of those who knows how to maintain a solid course and rhythm with talent. Whether through his successful events under the Mikrokosm label in Brittany or his entry into the Weird Planet Agency booking roster, a great adventure is only just beginning. A few questions were welcomed to check in with this acid techno artist who makes dancefloors sweat so much.

Hi Théo, how were your beginnings in electronic music? Your first interests, the genres that first made an impact on you, etc.

Hi Estelle, my beginnings in electronic music started with the Astropolis festival at the age of 16 (I'm originally from Brest). At that time, it was the electro explosion (Gesaffelstein, Toxic Avenger). When I arrived in Rennes at 18, I gradually turned towards techno and trance. I experienced my first Transmusicales and my first underground parties (Elabo) there.

Mikrokosm, your event-organizing association in Rennes. Your shows are sold out every time; tell us about your role and how it all started.

Through attending concerts with my university friends, the idea was born to organize our own events with the artists we love. Mikrokosm was created six years ago now. I am in charge of production and event communication. The three of us, along with Yves and Thibault (Dica, Void Builder), handle the programming.

Your local pride within the Brittany territory—audience, artists, collaborations, memories?

We can be proud of having had the chance to book many artists (legends in their style) that we were listening to almost eight years ago (Dj Arne L II, Stay Up Forever: Chris Liberator, The Geezer, Dave The Drummer, Sterling Moss, Aaron Liberator).

Your career as TEOKAD; why did you also want to perform and produce, in addition to organizing concerts?

From the very start of the association project, I wanted to learn how to mix. I was listening to music all the time; my selection was already made. Then, I turned toward production. I wanted to create my own tracks in the styles I hold dear (ACIIIIIIID). I’d like to thank Mélanie Bouchon and Nicolas Herincx (founders of Weird Planet) for giving me the chance to join the family.

You were recently signed by Weird Planet Agency for booking, notably with a great night in Paris for July 14th. Any impressions or progress to share regarding your journey?

I am very happy to have joined the Weird Planet family alongside world-renowned artists like Sterling Moss, Thomas P Heckmann, Mark Eg, and Velcro. In fact, these artists have already played at our events (except for Mark Eg, canceled due to COVID). It's a real achievement for me to join such a solid roster. Obviously, with COVID all dates are currently on hold, but it looks promising for the future.

How have you experienced the appearance of COVID-19, both as an artist and as co-founder of Mikrokosm?

Inevitably, we had to cancel all our scheduled dates (both as an artist and for the association) from March to December 2020. We lose a part of our work, but it's the same for everyone and we will come back stronger than ever. Fortunately, we still have production.

Your major artistic influences on a daily basis?

Daily, I listen to a bit of everything. Depending on the mood, I listen to all the latest aggressive Techno, Acid, and Early Hardstyle tracks. I also listen to much more chill sounds (Lofi, Hip Hop, Synthwave).

A track you usually play in your sets?

Moguai - Aciiid; this track is a great classic in my sets. I speed it up by 20bpm and it's a pure bomb. There is a section in the middle that is too commercial for my taste, so I skip it.
Thoqy - Check dat beatz; this one is one of my favorite discoveries this year. I haven't had the chance to play it yet, but it's a future classic in my sets.

How do you see your near future, any upcoming projects?

Once COVID is behind us, I'm really looking forward to resuming event organization and artist bookings. Another project is currently being set up: the creation of a label :o but I won't say any more for now, surprise!
